Made a virus to bring down UCM

Two UCM college students have been arrested and charged in connection with a computer hacking conspiracy to bring down their university network.

Prosecutors claim that Joseph Camp, 26, and Daniel Fowler, 21, hatched together a computer hacking scheme while they were students at the University of Central Missouri in 2009. The pair made a virus to infect UCM computers, including the university president's computer.

Once the virus was installed, the two were able to record a user's keystrokes and download the user's files, court documents said. They then attempted to flog the data to a contact in New York. The data included personal information of tens of thousands of people from UCM.

They were discovered and apparently attempted to silence a witness by threatening him on Facebook, the court was told.
