US soldier killed in east Afghanistan
A funeral service of a US soldier killed in Logar Province, AfghanistanAn American soldier has been killed in eastern Afghanistan, bringing the number of US-led troops killed in the war-torn country to almost 40 in 2011.US military officials announced Thursday that an American soldier lost his life in east Afghanistan on Wednesday, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The military did not release any further detail about the incident.
More than 700 foreign troops, most of them American, lost their lives in the war-wrecked country in 2010.
The latest Pentagon figures show roadside bombs killed 60 percent more US troops in Afghanistan in 2010 compared to the previous year.
The improvised explosive device (IED), also known as roadside bombs, claimed the lives of 268 American troops in war-hit Afghanistan in 2010.
Pentagon figures indicate that 619 US troops have so far been killed and another 5,764 wounded in roadside bomb attacks in Afghanistan since the US-led invasion of the country in October 2001.
