All the evidence is in for the police corruption trial of John Schertzer and four other former Toronto drug squad officers.

The final defence witness, former Det.-Const. Raymond Pollard, finished testifying on his own behalf Thursday morning.

The jury is to return to Ontario Superior Court on May 28 to hear final submissions from the lawyers for the five accused, followed by the Crown. That is expected to take at least a week.

The judge will then charge the jury of 14 — allowed under new rules — after which 12 will be randomly selected to deliberate, and two will be sent home.

The trial began Jan. 16, and has sat for 72 days, hearing from 30 witnesses.

Pollard, 48, Schertzer, 54, Steven Correia, 45, Joseph Miched, 53, and Ned Maodus, 49, are variously charged with conspiracy to attempt to obstruct justice, theft, assault, perjury and extortion between 1997 and 2002.
